Making Tax Digital

MTD-ready in a week

Xero, digital records and HMRC sign-up for sole traders and landlords, set up in five working days for a fixed fee.

Who needs it

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax applies to sole traders and landlords whose qualifying income (turnover and rent before expenses) was over £50,000 on their 2024–25 return, from 6 April 2026. It drops to £30,000 from April 2027 and £20,000 from April 2028. See MTD thresholds and start dates.

  1. Day 1 Quick call, bank and HMRC details
  2. Day 2 Xero set up for your business or properties
  3. Day 3 Bank feeds on, records brought up to date
  4. Day 4 HMRC sign-up and software connected
  5. Day 5 First-quarter walkthrough. You’re ready.

Fixed fees

Launch offer: no setup fee when you sign up for 12 months before 31 January 2027.

Landlord (up to 3 properties)£99£29/month

Xero is paid for separately, directly to Xero, for now.

What’s included

  • Xero set up properly, with sensible categories and rules
  • Digital records brought up to date and bank feeds connected
  • HMRC sign-up and agent authorisation
  • A walkthrough of your first quarterly update

The five days depend on having your records and the access we need, and on HMRC’s own sign-up and agent authorisation steps.

The monthly plan adds all four quarterly updates (due 7 August, 7 November, 7 February and 7 May) and your year-end tax return. Prefer to file yourself? Just take the setup. See how quarterly updates work.

HMRC won’t give penalty points for late quarterly updates in the 2026–27 tax year, though every update must still be sent before you can file your tax return. It’s a good year to get set up calmly.
